Our Wine Country Adventure

I can't believe I'm just now writing this post! We just loved our trip and can't wait to visit again!! We had a great time, and the weather was absolutely beautiful. And, it was harvest time- such a fun time to visit!! So....a couple of weekends ago, for our 2nd anniversary, Kevin and I took a trip to California's wine country. We love all things wine, so it really was the prefect little trip for us! We went to about 25 different vineyards/wineries....so, here's a quick look at some of our favorite things we did.

We flew into San Francisco and spent the afternoon there.

Our first stop was to Fisherman's Wharf, where we had a super yummy lunch.

After lunch, we headed over to Pier 39 to hang out with these guys....
Oh my goodness, they were soooo cute!!! So fun to watch!

Due to our love of Ghirardelli Chocolate, we knew we'd have to visit Ghirardelli Square....and, of course, eat some chocolate!!

A view of Alcatraz Island....beautiful view, huh?

We took the opportunity to drive down the world's crookedest street, Lombard Street

It was very fun and I'm glad did it!

After our afternoon in San Francisco, we were off to Sonoma!! On our way out, I was kinda sad that we didn't get a great view of the Golden Gate bridge....

I'm a planner and I usually have a plan for everything but, on this trip I was determined to not have a plan, I just wanted go wherever the road took us. Of course we had some favorite wineries that we knew we would want to visit, but other than that....we were up for whatever.

Our first big decision, where to go first?!?
We chose to visit Sonoma Valley first....we both just fell in love with Sonoma. The wineries are a bit smaller, more intimate - it just kinda had a more laid back feel. Perfect for Kevin and I!!

Decisions, Decisions....ha!! :)

Our first stop was at the Kendall Jackson Winery. I wasn't really excited about visiting this particular winery....Kendall Jackson isn't exactly my favorite wine BUT it was the first winery we saw, so we had to stop - and I'm SOOOO glad we did!! They poured their higher end label (which I've never seen before & didn't know they had) and was very impressed, it was delicious and it ended up being one of our favorites!

First grapes we saw in Sonoma!!! Yes, I was pretty excited! Ha!! :)

More grapes!!!

Great little vineyard, wonderful patio and fantastic views!

Their patio....I think it's impossible for a winery to have a bad view in Sonoma and Napa.

I love, love Francis Ford Coppola's wine so that was one of the vineyards where we would have to stop. Look at all of this wine!! Oh man, I was in heaven!!

His Sonoma winery isn't quite done yet, there is still a bit of constuction - one HUGE thing that's left is the POOL!!! Yep, a POOL!!! The pool has tons of changing rooms and is complete with an outdoor winebar!! Oh gosh, I'm so excited to visit again when it's open!!! How fun?!?!!!
....yeah, you totally can't tell there is a pool back there, sorry for the horrible picture! It really is pretty impressive in person! I promise you won't be disappointed if you visit!!

Delicious sparkling wine at Chandon

Domaine Carneros Winery - very stately estate. Again, absolutely beautiful views!!

Seriously, there were great views at every place we visited BUT, the Ferrari Carano winery had the best gardens. We asked tons of locals where they liked to go and everyone we asked said we had to visit this place.....and, they were right!

So unlike me but I didn't really take to many pictures of their gardens. Kevin and I were having such a great time just sipping our wine and wandering around the gardens that we didn't really take any pictures....

Silver Oak....their reds are out of this world!!

So, we visited LOTS of wineries and took tons of pictures of all of them - I'm pretty embarrassed to report that I cannot remember the name of this place. I remember that we really liked their wines, their staff was very helpful and friendly and it was in Sonoma....and it was all in a cave....yeah, that's all I've got on this place.

Coppola-Rubicon Estate, Napa - like I just said, I love Coppola's wine!! Soooo happy that I got to have their wine in Napa and Sonoma!!

Not only was this a winery but it was also a museum! Such a neat place!!
Yep, that's a mini sailboat - pretty cute!

L-O-V-E their driveway!!

The view from the Opus One winery. This places was a-mazing!!

Our absolutely favorite winery was the St. Francis Winery. Their staff was so knowledgeable, helpful and super friendly! One of their staff members works as a professional wine taster - he gave us an impromptu 2 hour class on how to taste wine like a professional. It was a-mazing!! And the wine was some of the best we've ever had! Love the mission-style architecture!

View from their patio....we could have stayed out their forever just sipping wine and looking at this gorgeous view.

The absolute highlight of our trip was our balloon ride!!

We did have to wake up pretty early but this view was worth it!!

The entire experience was just so surreal, it was was such a smooth ride and unbelievably peaceful!

You can't really see it in this picture but...we could just see the bay.

Yeah....I took a ton of pictures - ha!! Little secret, I totally felt like Dorothy and was really hoping to stay over the rainbow. Lol!! :)

We landed near the small town of Yountville.....hung out in the French Laundry's garden.

Stopped off at Bouchon Bakery - man, do I miss those pastries!! And, I think our little Molly would have l-o-v-e-d their pet treat selection! Yeah, it was the most perfect little bakery.

Checked out our the little Bistro where we had reservations that night. We got lucky and were able to sit out on their patio.

Our last dinner in Napa.....just delicious!

After our little adventure, I think I'm ready to move to Sonoma Valley, open my own little winery!! Ha!! Well, a girl can dream - right?!? ;)

And, most importantly...our Anniversary!! I can't believe that Kevin and I will be celebrating out 2nd anniversary next weekend! Time has just flown by!! Honestly, I feel like our wedding was just a few months ago - ha!!

Our Labor Day Weekend

I was very fortunate that I didn't have to work over the Labor Day weekend. Since I have recently changed jobs (I'm now working on an Ortho floor - which is sooooo much different than OB) I felt pretty lucky, being the new girl and all.

Kevin's cousin Rachel got married that weekend in upstate New York so we were thrilled to find out we'd be able to go! We are both so blessed to have amazing families and since Kevin's family all live on the East Coast anytime we have the chance to visit them we take it!

The wedding was at one of the Bed and Breakfast's on New York's Finger Lakes. Even though I once lived in New York, I hadn't ever heard of this area but wow, was it gorgeous. If you ever have the opportunity, I highly recommend a visit. I heard a few of the locals say that the Finger Lakes are New York's best kept secret and I couldn't agree more!! Beautiful area, HUGE lakes, lots of wineries....what's not to love?!? ;)

We stayed a few minutes away from the wedding/reception site at The Trimmer's House Bed and Breakfast. It was a really precious home, really friendly couple that owned it and super yummy food! We were lucky to find a place (last minute) that was so conveniently located to the wedding/reception, the lakes and the wine trail!

Kevin and I hanging out on the front porch swing...

Our 1st day there we kinda just hung out with Kevin's dad, sister and brother-in-law. Sadly, Kevin's mom wasn't able to make it; Kevin's grandmother, Sophie, (who lives with his parents) isn't doing very well - please keep her in your prayers. We had a great time catching up, hanging out and checking out some local restaurants. Kevin's sister is pregnant with identical twins so it was wonderful to be able to catch up with her about her pregnancy, plans for the nursery...ya know, all the fun baby stuff...but, x's 2!! Identical twins - what an awesome blessing, huh?!? I can't wait to meet them! It will be so much fun!! ...After what felt like 20 minutes of catching up (really it was about 3 hours), it was time to get ready for the rehearsal!

The chapel is one of the neatest chapels I've ever seen! It's located on the side of a mountain overlooking Keuka Lake. The view was stunning!! It was such a perfect place to get married!

The Chapel

The back of the chapel

Arches right outside the chapel - isn't this architecture just stunning?!? LOVE it!!

Gorgeous views...

After the ceremony rehearsal, we were off to dinner - which was at Glenora winery. Dinner was outside overlooking Seneca lake. Another beautiful view!

The nest day, we had time before the wedding to visit a couple of the local wineries. Both had great views and yummy wines! The wine trail was really fun and I'm so glad we had the opportunity to check it out!

Here's a view from the Keuka Lake Vineyard....Seriously, I could have sat in those chairs, sipped wine and stared at the view all day!

The tasting room

After our quick wine trail trip, it was time to get ready for the wedding - yay!! I just love weddings!! And this one was so sweet, their vows to each other were so heartwarming, they are just such a precious couple!. The intimate setting of the small chapel make it really special and we were so happy that we were able to be there for Rachel and Adam. The Reception was at the Esperanza Mansion. The views from the mansion grounds were just spectacular - it was "postcard perfect"! Most of the Rooney side of the family was at the wedding so it was wonderful to chat and catch up with the aunts, uncles and cousins.

Rachel and Adam...they were sooooo happy!!

Kevin and I at the wedding.....

Seriously - this view was just spectacular!!

Kevin with two of his beautiful cousins

The next day we all woke up early, said our goodbyes and all headed out. Saying goodbye is always hard but this time it was especially hard since we really aren't sure when we will have the time/opportunity to get back to the East Coast. Hopefully, we will start going up more once the twins are born! ...Did I mention Kevin's sister is going to wait to find out the sex of the twins?!? So exciting!!!

Kevin and I flew out of Ithaca, which was a couple of hours away so we headed out pretty early because we weren't sure of quite how long it would take. I'm so glad we left as early as we did because it provided the opportunity to visit Ithaca College and Cornell University. I loved, loved my college time at the University of Oklahoma's gorgeous campus (Boomer, Sooner!!) and I think it's because of all my positive experiences that I really enjoy visiting other campuses.

Ithaca's campus was more modern than I expected. I'm not sure why but, I pictures more traditional New England architecture. Either way, it was very pretty.

Cornell university was exactly what I expected!! It is a very picturesque campus also with gorgeous mountain views!

Our weekend trip was such a great little get-a-way, a true blessing for us and we are just so happy that everything worked out allowing us to go!
