***First, I would like to thank all my amazing blog friends that left such sweet comments. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers, it means a lot. I feel very blessed to have you ladies as blog friends! :) ***
Our journey to see my Nana started off pretty rocky and since I am not patient, I didn't handle it so well. It's often hard for me to understand that my time is not always God's time (yeah, I really struggle with this one) and this weekend was another example of this lesson.
Thursday evening when my step-mom called to let me know the situation with my Nana, I immediately booked Kevin and I on the next flight to San Antonio. Friday morning we were up bright and early, and things started off really well - until we landed in Denver. When we arrived our airline told us our connecting flight had been canceled and it would be a few hours until the next flight to San Antonio. Since time was of the essence I was really disappointed to hear this news but, I figured a few hours would be alright. So, we headed off to Denver's USO - I did some homework and Kevin took care of some work stuff. (We are so blessed to have such wonderful USO's!!) When we headed back to our gate, we found out the plane was again delayed 2 hours. At this point, I did the only thing any emotionally upset girl could....I went to the Ladies Room and cried and cried. I was so upset. When we finally arrived in San Antonio, we hopped in the rental car and headed to the hospital. I knew my Nana was going to be transferred to a Hospice facility but, I wasn't sure when. Within 5 minutes arriving in her hospital room, the EMS guys showed up to transfer her to the Hospice house. Here's where the whole God's time is different than my time thing comes in....I was able to ride in the ambulance with her to the Hospice house and then, at the Hospice house (btw, best nurses in the WORLD) I was able to assist the nurse in my Nana's initial assessment and get her relaxed. It was such a blessing!! I was able to add little things into the care like...Nana doesn't like her feet covered, she's pretty cold natured...I feel it's the little things in life that are important so I was really thankful I was able to add these little touches. I am extremely thankful that the day's activities occurred on God's time.
The rest of the weekend was pretty emotional....I just thought I'd share my blessing and lesson in patience.
